In the post-Civil War South, a wounded Jewish Confederate soldier returns home to find his family has fled their city mansion, but two former slaves, raised by his family as Jews, remain. With Passover upon them, the three men unite to celebrate the holiday at a crossroads of personal and national history. “A compelling Civil War-era drama, filled with unexpected moments of humor.” – The New York Times

Checkpoint – a play by Martin Cohen

The play is based in part on Homer’s Iliad, and involves the Middle East conflict between
the Israeli and the Palestinian people. Although there is ample history presented in the script,
this play is not about the wars in that region, but rather shows the humanity of two opposing
families and how the daily conflict of war and occupation has torn apart Israeli and Palestinian
family life.

The play will be presented beginning June, 19th, 2018, for three weekends (Thursday
through Sunday) at the Richard E. Wildish Theater.
